As a lifelong packrat and very unorganized person, this book is the first book that has ever actually motivated me to really become organized and I've actually read it all the way through and followed it's tips. A great thing about this book is that you don't have to read all the way through. Pick a chapter and dive right in AND it gives you great solutions/options for quick fixes or major rehauls.
I'm newly married and only have one small baby, but I'm hoping that as a SAHM, this will get my butt in gear and keep it there for years to come.
SOLD on this book,

The First Conglomerate 145 Years of the Singer Sewing Machine Company Review

The First Conglomerate 145 Years of the Singer Sewing Machine Company
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
On the grounds of extensive research, Bissell makes the case that the Singer Sewing Machine Company was a leader in the industrialization leading to rising standards of living for the masses of average persons, beginning in the U. S. in the decades before the Civil War and continuing well into the 20th century. The Company was a leader not only in developing the sewing machine providing well-made, mass-produced clothing, but also in creating a large labor force, implementing progressive employee and business practices, and standing as a model for other companies formed in the course of industrialization. Indeed, the Singer Sewing Machine Company was so successful and so respected over a wide area of the globe that in the language of many Third World countries, the word singer is used for the noun sewing-machine and the verb to sew.
Bissell follows the history of the Company mostly by profiles of its succession of presidents focusing in their perspectives and practices as they faced different economic and social circumstances in the long history of the Company. Singer1s reputation and success suffered a severe setback in 1987 after a hostile takeover by Paul Bilzerian, who was later indicted on tax and securities violations. Only in the past five years or so has Singer been able to recover from this and regain something of its former prominent position. For following the Singer Sewing Machine Company from its founding until today, Bissell1s history of this major American Company is the definitive book on this subject.

Decorating with Funky Shui: How to Lighten Up, Loosen Up, and Have Fun Decorating Your Home Review

Decorating with Funky Shui: How to Lighten Up, Loosen Up, and Have Fun Decorating Your Home

The antidote to unhappiness-Decorating with Funky Shui.

This is a jewel of a book, as beautiful as it is funny. I love all the tongue in cheek tips. For your bedroom: "A single white rose bud in a glass vase represents chastity--so you don't have to." It's a humorous look at making your house a home that really represents who you are and how you like to live. Since reading it I've taken out several of my collections that were under the bed and in the closet (like Kitty & Jennifer recommend) and displayed them as beautiful objets d'art in my home. I'm feeling better already--and I bet I'll be happier this year just because I can find stuff. If you know a friend who needs more fun and less work or has clutter instead of collections (don't we all) buy this book for them today. Highly recommended!

Decorating with Funky Shui encourages you to dig out all those wild and crazy pieces you've been hiding. So c'mon, gather up all those snow globes and let the disco ball sparkle in your living room. Let your rooms tell people who you really are-if you dare.Your home should be a reflection of your own personality, not a hodgepodge of mass-produced whatnots from a "big-box" chain retail store. Inspired by the popular Chinese art of feng shui, this lighthearted book takes you through the "Fun-damentals," the four directions to make your house yours, all yours: Find the playful center of the room: It can be a random garage-sale treasure, that cool mannequin you didn't think you could find a place for, or the tarnished tuba you inherited from Grandpa. That one goofy, unusual, or chic conversation piece can become the star of your room. Brighten up with color: Not everything has to match your boring beige sofa. Rooms without color lack flavor. Enlighten up: Fun, dynamic lighting can brighten a room in more ways than one. Candles add coziness; Christmas lights sparkle year-round. A string of hot-pepper lights can spice up a cool room. Abundance through abundance: The souvenirs you pick up during road trips. Your collection of vintage milk-bottle caps. All the Pez dispensers you can't bear to part with. If you've got 'em, flaunt 'em. Artfully display your collections-whatever they may be-to show them off.Decorating with Funky Shui encourages you to stretch your imagination to find a style that's uniquely you.

What Parish Are You From: A Chicago Irish Community and Race Relations

"What Parish are You From", a powerhouse of sensitivity, insight and humanitariansim, describes the fatherly role of the Catholic Church in immigrant America, how forces both inside and out of the realm of Catholocism were faced and how finally the neighborhoood ethnic Catholic churches met their Waterloo. The diluted essence of a neighborhood church changed the relationship of parishoner to parish forever...it was no longer able to "shelter" its people.

For anyone dreaming or considering the fulltime RV lifestyle, this is a must read. Between humorous e-mail accounts of their adventures from all three of them (Mark, Donia and Cleo the dog), the book is peppered with how-to's and explanations of how the full-time lifestyle works. And newbie or experienced RVer, you'll want pencil in hand to add new places to your list to visit. I particularly enjoyed reading about the regional foods and interesting restaurants and laughed, remembering the ajustments that must be made when downsizing into an RV. Great read!

A candid and personal look at an adventurous new lifestyle – living full-time on the road in a recreational vehicle. 1.5 million Americans live on the road. This book tells you what itÂ's like. There are thousands of retirees every year that are exchanging the stability of a permanent house for the adventure of a house of wheels Have you ever wondered what it would be like to take off in a camper one day and never come back? Steeles on Wheels chronicles a year in the life of a 50-something couple who are doing just that — living full-time in a 34-foot recreational vehicle. With humor and candor, Steeles on Wheels answers the most common questions about living on the road, such as managing money, getting along in close quarters, the issue of Â"legal residency,Â" big-rig driving skills, sewer hookups, how to choose campgrounds, living without a phone, getting mail, and much more. Also included are charts, checklists, and practical survival tips. E-mail letters to friends and family, along with some written from the sassy viewpoint of the traveling family dog, convey the delights of the ever-changing scenery and non-stop adventures of living in an RV.
