I have to agree with Shannon. I don't know how, with such an interesting idea, this book could be so boring. I had very high hopes because I remember a similar Then and Now book that came out back in the 80s (maybe for the sesqicentennial) that was so well done and covered many areas besides downtown. In this book, the "Then" photos are okay and cover only a short time in Dallas' history (its early years), and the "Now" photos are pretty terrible. This lackluster book contains none of the heart or spirit of Dallas, unfortunately. If you want to see more of what Dallas used to look like, go to the downtown library and check out their photo catalog. You'll get a much better feel for what Dallas used to be like ... and you won't have to spend any money, either.

"Big D" is known the world over as a dynamic center of business and culture. Dallas Then and Now captures in photographs the amazing changes the city has seen over the last century. It includes "Old Red", the original county courthouse, Dealey Plaza and the Kennedy Memorial, Dallas City Hall designed by I. M. Pei, the original Neiman-Marcus, and the original Six Flags amusement park. Other important buildings, sites, and neighborhoods are documented in archival and modern photographs shown side-by-side to illustrate the city's dramatic history.
