(More customer reviews)I like the concept of using a slide out tray instead of drawers in the console. IMO, it gives a cleaner look to the console to have 3 doors.
The media stands on end as shown in the product picture; it is leaning against a re-positionable bar across the back.
Pro: Assembly is simple, if you are installing these at the same time that you're putting together the console. They can be installed without disassembling the console, but . . .
Con: your options for location may be limited by the spacers used with the door hinges. We chose to partially disassemble the console, which wasn't much of a chore.
Pro:The design with a flat bottom and no dividers will make it easy to keep clean. You can store more than CDs and DVD in the tray - items like video game controllers, Netflix envelopes, etc.
Con: It's hard to group and organize items - such as movies or music by genre, because of the lack of dividers. Each of the 3 rows needs to be about the same depth since they all lean against the same support bar. If you really like to have neat and tidy, alphabetized, or color coded storage, you'll be mildly annoyed. So it's a trade-off between flexibility and organization.
Pro: the materials are good quality, and the trays slide smoothly on full-extension glides.
Con: There seems to be a bit of bowing in our console support posts, because the top tray is about 1/8" too narrow and the slide keeps popping out of alignment so that it sticks a bit.
Overall the pros should give it 4 stars, but the slight annoyances disappointed me enough to downgrade it to only 3. I wouldn't say don't buy it, but just be aware that it's not a perfect product.
